My major program of research explores the interplay of negative social stereotypes, stigmatization, and the personal health behaviors of individuals classified as overweight or obese. Guided by research on stereotype threat, my work seeks to understand how variations across time and situations can impact the outcomes of obesity-related stigmatization. In addition, I collaborate with researchers on issues pertaining to diet-related decision making and the consequences of mental illness stigma on treatment-seeking behavior.
